As summer wound to a close, we got a glimpse inside a special slice of San Diego: a bustling village of sisterhood at the northern edge of Balboa Park, where girls from all walks of life build bonds and grow bold together.
Uptown 11 Studios proudly produced two films to share the story of that sisterhood at the Girl Scouts San Diego annual Urban Campout event, which celebrates all that Girl Scouts offer to the region and the world.
To make these short features, we simply embedded ourselves in the lives of Girl Scouts attending summer camp and asked pointed questions of the staff who serve the organization and its tens of thousands of members across the region. From there, the stories practically told themselves.
What an amazing experience it was to see two short films we produced debut in front of a live audience at the beautiful celebration hosted on the Girl Scouts’ Balboa Park campus. As photojournalists covering the community, we’ve spent a lot of time at galas and fundraisers. There is truly nothing that compares to the Urban Campout experience.
We were honored to produce the videos that played throughout the event to help communicate this vision and we were heartened to work alongside so many women of courage, confidence and character to bring this work to life.
After the films debuted, we recognized other opportunities to share stories from the footage we'd gathered. The interviews, in particular, provided poetic insights into the organization and its impact on girls throughout the region. We weaved these storytelling bites with other existing footage to produce social media and fundraising videos that spanned through the end of 2024.
